ปจจัย 4 (สิ่งค้ำจุนชีวิต, สิ่งจําเปนเบื้องตนของชีวิต, สิ่งที่ตองอาศัยเลี้ยงอัตภาพ — Paccaya: the four necessities of life; requisites)
1.จีวร (ผานุงหม — Cãvara: robes; clothing)
2.บิณฑบาต (อาหาร — Piõóapàta: almsfood; food)
3.เสนาสนะ (ที่อยูอาศัย, ที่นั่งที่นอน — Senàsana: lodging)
4.คิลานปจจัยเภสัชบริขาร หรือ เภสัช (ยาและอุปกรณรักษาโรค — Bhesajja: medicine; medical equipment)

สี่อยางนี้ สําหรับภิกษุ จํากัดเขาอีกเรียกวา นิสสัย 4 แปลวา เครื่องอาศัยของบรรพชิต (Nissaya: resources; means of support on which the monastic life depends)
1.ปณฑิยาโลปโภชนะ (โภชนะคือคําขาวที่ไดมาดวยกําลังปลีแขง — Piõóiyàlopa-bhojana: almsfood of scraps; food obtained by going on the alms-gathering)
2.บังสุกุลจีวร (ผาที่เขาทิ้งตามกองขยะหรือตามปาชา — Pa§sukålacãvara: discarded cloth taken from the rubbish heap or the charnel ground; rag-robes)
3.รุกขมูลเสนาสนะ (อยูอาศัยโคนไม — Rukkhamålasenàsana: dwelling at the foot of a tree)
4.ปูติมุตตเภสัช (ยาน้ำมูตรเนา — Påtimuttabhesajja: medicines pickled in stale urine: ammonia as a medicine)
